Remove
the clutter
The next
thing you’ll want to do is go through every cupboard, closet,
underneath beds, attics, crawl space, garage, nook and cranny.
Anywhere you might have started a collection of "stuff."
Evaluate some of that stuff that’s been sitting there,
untouched, for years. Do you really "need" to keep it?
If so, put it in a box and send it off to storage. If not, then
it’s time to throw it away, donate it, or sell it.
There are
two good reasons you want to do this. First, the less
stuff you have crammed into closets and cupboards, the more
space the house shows to have. You want the house to appear as if
there’s plenty of storage space for the Buyer’s own stuff. If
the Buyer happens to open up a closet, and stuff is falling out,
that gives the impression that perhaps there isn’t enough space
in the house, like they would like to have. Plus, it might also
give the impression that you’re not very tidy, and that can
concern the Buyer as to what kind of condition you’ve kept the
house in.
Besides,
starting early with packing a lot of the "clutter" will
it make much easier to pack the rest of your house once you’ve
sold it.
